Island Charm: Perfect for Short Stays in Vestmannaeyjar

Island Charm: Perfect for Short Stays in Vestmannaeyjar This hotel provided a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the charming island of Vestmannaeyjar. The location was fantastic - just a short walk from two grocery stores, making it easy to stock up on supplies. For a delicious and convenient dinner, we tried the takeaway at Kráin, which was right across the street from the hotel. They impressed us so much we even went back for breakfast the next morning! Vestmannaeyjar is a pedestrian-friendly island, so getting around was a breeze. We were able to easily reach all the sights we wanted to see on foot. The highlight of the island for us was definitely the friendly cat population and the beautiful, colorful houses. One minor regret: we simply didn't have enough time to visit the beluga whale sanctuary. If we return, that will definitely be at the top of our list! Overall, this hotel is a great choice for a short stay in Vestmannaeyjar. The location is convenient, the town is walkable, and the friendly atmosphere makes it a truly enjoyable experience.

Peaceful small town with rich and fascinating history, namely it's fishing industry and near annihilation by a volcano. I recommend hiking over and to the top of the volcano and visiting the volcano museum.

The ferry to get to the island was immaculately clean and ran on time both ways. While a smaller boat for such open seas, the sailing was still good and not too rough! The island itself was picturesque and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Such a beautiful island! The landscape is absolutely unreal. Hiking the volcano and then visiting the museum is a must. We saw puffins on the outlook just past the golf course! (ie didn't need to take the bus tour to the southern tip of the island to see them). Vigtin bakery is delicious, as well as Tanginn for dinner. Check out Brothers Brewery for a good drink! Super easy to get around on foot, and the ferry was perfect! A must see in Iceland!

Vestmanneayar is a beautiful, self-contained fishing village...

Vestmanneayar is a beautiful, self-contained fishing village that also caters nicely to tourists. It is located on the island of Heimaey. Getting there is challenging but well worth it. The best way is to rent a car in Reykjavik and drive 2 hours to Landeyjahofn on the south coast. Leave the car there (I found no need for a car on the island) and take the ferry out to the island. Two or three days is sufficient to see everything on Heimaey. Bike rental, e-scooter and hiking are the best ways to get around. I was able to bike the length of the island with several stops in about 2 hours. It's hilly- what do you expect it's a volcano. Great opportunities to view wild life and spend time outside. The views cannot be beat. Food is excellent but (like the rest of Iceland) a bit expensive. The public pool/ hot tubs are a great way to end a physically taxing day.

    What a beautiful island!

What a beautiful island! We took the tour with EyjaTours and it was so informative. The island holds so much rich history, and the scenery is gorgeous. We were able to see the puffins, as well as learn about volcanoes.

The cottage was tiny but spotlessly clean and the small space was very well organised. The kitchenette had everything we needed to cook a simple meal. The location was quiet and lovely, a bit outside the town with a view over the ocean and even a couple of very friendly horses in a fence right outside our door. I would love to stay at Ofanleiti again next time I visit Vestmannaeyjar.

Great location at the marina by the ferry. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. The unit is beautiful, modern, and well appointed. The unit is super clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. It is a second-floor unit (accessible only by stairs) with a view of the harbor. The unit was easy to access, and the management company had great communication.

The apartment was relatively spacious, well equipped, and perfectly comfortable. We found it easily thanks to our car’s GPS, but other guests should know how important it is to follow the complicated instructions that are sent to you. Parking by the hotel was extremely easy as many visitors come to the island without cars.

Good location, pretty clean (was expecting much worse from the reviews), nice restaurant next door. Even though the staff was pretty much invisible, check in and check out were pretty easy - they answered the phone number written at the reception and gave clear instructions :)

The house looks scary from the outside and we felt it looked like a haunted house. Inside is a little better. The inside is in the making. Bring a face mask, the curtains are too transparent (normally Icelandic hotels provide opaque curtains given the long summer nights).

The location was excellent, a short walk from Elephant Rock in one direction and downtown Vestmannaeyjabær in the other. The proprietor went out of his way to make us feel welcome- we enjoyed a nice breakfast before boarding the morning ferry back to the mainland.
